ThisisareprintoftheApocryphalBookofEnochtheProphetwhichwasfirstdiscoveredinAbyssiniaintheyear1773byaScottishexplorernamedJamesBruce.In1821TheBookofEnochwastranslatedbyRichardLaurenceandpublishedinanumberofsuccessiveeditions,culminatinginthe1883edition.Oneofthemaininfluencesfromthebookisitsexplanationofevilcomingintotheworldwiththearrivalofthe“fallenangels.“Enochactsasascribe,writingupapetitiononbehalfofthesefallenangels,orfallenones,tobegiventoahigherpowerforultimatejudgment.ChristianityadoptedsomeideasfromEnoch,includingtheFinalJudgment,theconceptofdemons,theoriginsofevilandthefallenangels,andthecomingofaMessiahandultimately,aMessianickingdom.TheBookofEnochwasultimatelyremovedfromtheBibleandbannedbytheearlychurch.CopiesofitwerefoundtohavesurvivedinEthiopia,andfragmentsinGreeceandItaly.LiketheDeadSeaScrollsandtheNagHammadiLibrary,theBookofEnoch,translatedfromtheoriginalEthiopianCopticscript,isarareresourcethatwassuppressedbytheearlychurchandthoughtdestroyed.Todayitisbackinprintinthisexpanded,deluxeedition,usingtheoriginal1883revisedtext.
